Kratos is one of the most feared warriors in all of mythology. But the bald guy has also hit the floor more times than his legend suggests. Here is every defeat, in full context nine falls across every era of his life.
⚔️ #1- Ares Visits Sparta
God of War: Ascension Era
Before the Blades of Chaos, Kratos was just a kid. When Ares came to capture his brother Deimos, Kratos was powerless to stop him. He got punched around and left to learn his place. The first and most humbling defeat of his life.
⚔️ #2- Massacred by the Barbarians
God of War: Ascension Era
Kratos was already a Spartan general, but his army was massacred by the Barbarian king and his forces. Desperation drove him to call on Ares and that pact became the chain that defined the next decade of his life.
⚔️ #3- Captured by the Furies
God of War: Ascension
When Kratos tried to break his pact with Ares, the Furies enforcers of divine pacts came for him. He was captured and tortured. No clean fight, no battlefield glory. Just chains, pain, and the weight of a promise he never wanted to keep.
⚔️ #4- Humiliated by Charon the Ferryman
God of War: Chains of Olympus
Charon an old ferryman beats Kratos into the ground and throws him into the River Styx. Not a god. Not a titan. A ferryman. Perhaps the most embarrassing loss on the entire list.
⚔️ #5- Skewered by Ares over Pandora’s Box
God of War (2005)
Kratos finally finds Pandora’s Box and Ares impales him on a giant spike from a colossal distance. Kratos literally dies here and is thrown into the Underworld, only sheer willpower gets him back out.
⚔️ #6- vs. Deimos The One That Barely Counts
God of War: Ghost of Sparta
When Kratos finds his brother Deimos, Deimos attacks first, consumed by rage. Kratos doesn’t truly fight back he doesn’t want to hurt his brother. Less a defeat, more a consequence of love.
⚔️ #7- Stabbed by Zeus with the Blade of Olympus
God of War II
Zeus lures Kratos into draining his power into the Blade of Olympus then uses that very blade to cut him down. The rage this defeat ignites drives the entire events of God of War II and III.
⚔️ #8- Falls from Mount Olympus
God of War III
At the height of the war against Olympus, Kratos is sent plummeting from the peak of the mountain itself. Even at the height of his power, the gods could still knock him off.
⚔️ #9- Put to Sleep by Thor, Twice
God of War: Ragnarök
Thor knocks Kratos completely unconscious, lets him wake up, and then beats him again just to make a point. Deliberate. Calculated. Theatrical.
