From the fires of Olympus to the frozen realms of Midgard — Kratos has wielded many forms of divine fury. But which one truly reigns supreme?
Across every game in the God of War franchise, Kratos has tapped into a different kind of rage — each one shaped by a different era, a different loss, and a different version of himself. But if you had to rank them from weakest to strongest, where does each one fall? Let’s break it all down.
#5 — Weakest
Spartan Rage (Norse Era)
God of War (2018) & God of War: Ragnarök
The most disciplined version of Kratos brings with it the most restrained rage. There’s a profound reason this form sits at the bottom: Kratos no longer allows himself to be consumed by uncontrolled anger. The man who once tore gods apart with his bare hands has spent years cultivating something far rarer — self-control.
He trained extensively, hardened his mind, and learned to channel his fury rather than surrender to it. The result? A Spartan Rage that is measured and purposeful — but by definition, limited. A contained flame can never be as devastating as a wildfire.
#4
Spartan Rage (Greek Era)
God of War III
The earlier Greek version of Spartan Rage is a step up — raw, unfiltered, and devastatingly fast. But speed without strategy has its limits. Kratos unleashes a torrent of uncoordinated, one-directional strikes that lack the precision or area coverage to make it truly elite.
He cannot cover much ground during this state, leaving him vulnerable from the flanks. For sheer aggression, it’s ferocious — but brute-force chaos only goes so far against the worst Olympus had to offer.
#3 — Top Tier
Berserker Rage
God of War: Ghost of Sparta
What makes the Berserker state uniquely terrifying is its origin. This is the only rage Kratos ever accessed without any external power, divine gift, or magical intervention. It ignited the moment he witnessed his brother Deimos die at the hands of Thanatos — the God of Death himself.
Driven by pure grief and brotherly fury, Kratos practically defeated Thanatos — a god in his most powerful form — almost instantly. That alone makes this one of the most authentic and terrifying displays of Kratos’ true potential, unaugmented by the gods’ favor.
#2 — Runner-Up
Titan Rage
God of War: Ghost of Sparta
Titan Rage earns its spot near the top through sheer tactical versatility. Unlike the raw, directional fury of the Spartan Rage, Titan Rage covers both long- and short-range attacks, sweeping a large surrounding area — making it near-impossible to avoid.
But its true ace? An extra mechanic that releases all accumulated damage dealt to enemies up to that moment — converting a fight’s entire history of punishment into a devastating burst. That cumulative payoff makes it one of the most strategically rewarding rages in Kratos’ arsenal.
★ #1 — The Most Powerful
Rage of the Gods
God of War (2005)
The original. The definitive. The most complete rage Kratos has ever wielded. Yes, the Rage of the Gods consumes power at a higher rate than any other form — but the destruction it delivers is wholly justified.
The evidence is right there in the original God of War: watch how rapidly it drains Ares’ health bar. Ares is the hardest boss in the entire Greek saga — a god of war at full power — and the Rage of the Gods tears through him like parchment.
And then there’s the final stage — widely considered the most difficult moment in the entire God of War franchise: the arena of Kratos’ own clones. The Rage of the Gods wipes them out with ease. That alone tells you everything about its raw ceiling.
